Ryan Lunka has worked as a solution consultant with various parts of Adobe’s enterprise customer experience management technologies. He currently works with CITYTECH, Inc., an Adobe Experience Manager implementation partner in Chicago. He received a Bachelor of Business Administration from Ohio University with a focus in management information systems, and a graduate degree in information strategy, systems, and technology from Muskingum University. He has a passion for digital strategy and web technologies and a deep understanding of the business value of the Adobe Digital Marketing suite.

Promotional But Useless

I bought this book because this is the only book available, in the whole of the Universe, on Adobe AEM. I found this book to be quite superficial and largely useless. It doesn't give any recipes or practical recommendations that could be actually applied to any real life situations. I am an IT professional, so my look at the book is biased this way, because unlike marketing professionals, I cannot be satisfied with just a bunch of promotional text. But even as a marketing professional I would suspect this book would be of little value, since the only clear recommendation this books keeps giving multiple times in each chapter is to hire a team of AEM professionals if you want to achieve anything with the Adobe AEM software. Basically it is an inflated flier telling people to order Adobe services. I won't be surprised if this was just some internal guide developed by Adobe to help their own marketing team to sell the product. I am giving a two star rating (instead of a minimal possible) out of respect to the author who spent time putting this amount of screenshots and text together.

Good Survey of AEM capabilities

As the title describes, this book is geared towards marketing professionals, but it provides an excellent survey of the range AEM's applications. If you are a developer interested in a specific technology like S7, or you are interested exclusively in component writing and so on, you will not get what you need from this book. However, I do think anyone invested in Adobe technology would greatly benefit from reading this, especially when you compare the cost of the book and the actual training provided by Adobe.

If you want to see the range of uses of the product, and really understand the intentions behind AEM, see where the product is going, and get information of a wide range of applications, this book is great.

It is easy to get bogged down in the minutia/complexity of one specific use of the product, and even just for business and purposes and communication with clients, it is important to stay aware of the product as a whole.

Must Have For Digital Marketers

This book provides a phenomenal overview for any marketer or business personal currently interested in Adobe CQ5. From a marketing perspective, the book explains why CQ5 has the features it does, and how you can ultimately use them to improve the bottom line. It not only gives a thorough overview of the platform, but also explains how to best optimize AEM without losing the reader in unnecessary over-the-top technical jargon.

The author gives his honest opinion from real life experiences and provides solid examples on how AEM can add value to your digital marketing campaign. It also routinely gives a heads-up on common mistakes and what you can do to avoid them. This helps break-up the "textbook feel" most guide reads possess.

Overall, the book had great content that was easy to digest and comprehend.
