About the Author
Marc Shell, a John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Fellow, is the Irving Babbitt Professor of Comparative Literature and Professor of English at Harvard University, where he is also a professor in the graduate program in History of American Civilization. He is the author of a number of books. These include three influential studies of the relations between linguistic and literary economies: The Economy of Literature (1978), Money, Language, and Thought (1982), and Art and Money (1995) as well as books on nationalism, kinship, and multilingualism, such as The End of Kinship (1986) and American Babel (2002), and on disability, including the recent titles, Polio and Its Aftermath (2005) and Stutter (2006). A Canadian citizen, Shell has long been interested in the relations between Canada and the United States. With his wife, Professor Susan Shell, he co-directs The Seven Days Work Educational Foundation, Grand Manan Island, Canada, which sponsors conferences and educational outreach programs in the greater Gulf of Maine region in both countries.

Louis C. Gapenski, PhD, is a professor of health services administration with a specialization in corporate and healthcare finance at the University of Florida. He is the author of 30 textbooks, which are used worldwide and include Canadian and international editions as well as translations in eight languages. He has published 40 journal articles related to corporate and healthcare finance and is active in several professional associations.

George H. Pink, PhD, is the Humana Distinguished Professor in the Department of Health Policy and Management, Gillings School of Global Public Health, at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is a senior research fellow at the Cecil G. Sheps Center for Health Services Research at the university. Before receiving a doctorate in corporate finance, he spent ten years in health services management, planning, and consulting.

What more can I say.....

When you come across a series such as this, when you get to the end of book three...what more can one say that has not already been said in the two previous reviews? The answer is, nothing. So, if you have read my reviews of book one and two of The Ending series, you will not be surprised by what I am about to say.
This series is written exceptionally well. The characters are so well formed that it would be offensive to me if I was told that the visions I have with in my minds eye of each and everyone of them, was wrong. I could totally give a clear and concise description of each and every person living within these pages to a sketch artist and you would see how real these authors have formed each into believability.
I have read many books and many series throughout my life. This series is one of a very limited collection where I actually believe in the story that the authors have created. They are that talented.
When you find a treasure such as this series, it stays with you as you impatiently await the next book of the journey. The minute it is here you pounch on it so you can see if all has been well with the characters you have come to love and have thought about many times during the agonizing wait. And then as you begin to devour the feast, it is as though you never left the table and have been there since the first word in the first chapter in the first book of the series.
So... to get down to the nitty gritty... grab the series and begin the feast. I would have said grab the first book, I think it is free, but if you are like me, you will hate reaching the last word without having the next book handy. And then pray like mad they keep the story alive and the books coming!

UNBELIEVABLE, AWESOME, FANTASTIC

Out Of The Ashes is book three in The Ending series by Lindsey Fairleigh and Lindsey Pogue. This book/series has left me completely breathless. I feel like I just ran a marathon. (Or maybe that’s because I frequently read while on the treadmill!) I have loved this series from the beginning and that has not changed, maybe even gotten stronger, as this third book takes us deeper than ever before into the minds and hearts of the characters I have so grown to love.

We start right out where the previous book ended. Dani and Zoe have been rescued from the clutches of the Colony and from Clara, but not without damage. Dani is severely injured, both emotionally and physically. Her arm is broken, she is battered and bruised, and her ability is off line. Zoe, though, has suffered by the hands of Clara. Her memory is gone. She doesn’t recognize anyone, the woman she was is gone. As the weeks pass, she grows to trust everyone again but can’t bear to look into Jake’s eyes knowing he is looking for the woman he fell in love with, not this new person, the woman she is now.

The group wants to put as much distance as possible as quickly as possible between them and the colony. They decide to go back to Jason, Zoe and Dani’s home town, Bodega Bay. On the way they pass through Lake Tahoe where they meet up with some of their friends and make a startling discovery. I want to say here, that although it is not necessary, I am so very glad I read the prequels first. I already had the back story on something that happens here that added so much to my understanding of what happened.

I am so impressed with this group of people. They are challenged at every turn as they travel week after week. These people that like me have grown so accustomed to cars, computers, cell phones, and every other modern convenience, are now living the life of survivalists. Animals plays such a big part of these books. They do all their traveling on horseback and with Dani’s ability to communicate with the animals, their relationship with them is a very close one. The horses love them and will do anything to protect them.

They are forced to travel through the desert, going without water for long periods of time. They have to constantly be on the lookout for crazies. But along the way their relationship with one another becomes stronger than ever. Dani and Zoe’s lifelong friendship holds true, even though Zoe has lost her memory. The bond and the love is still there.

There are many secrets kept and there is loss and heartbreak along the way. But there is also love and friendship. Our two couples, Jason and Dani, and Jake and Zoe, grow stronger than ever with some very sweet sigh worthy moments. Along the way, the group plans out what they hope could be a good plan for their futures. A place to settle down and prosper, be happy, be safe. But so many obstacles are put in their paths. And of course, there is a big reveal and a new situation arises right at the end.

This series has kept me on the edge of my seat from the beginning and this book was no different. I know the next book, Before The Dawn, is in the works and for me it can’t get here fast enough. This series is simply incredible and I just can’t say enough about it. So I hope you will consider giving it a try. I hope you fall in love with it the way I have.

if you enjoyed the other two books then this one won't disappoint. It's just as good and just keeps going. A lot of times here lately I find myself bored and skipping paragraphs in books just to get to the point. The Authors in this series are great balancing the explaining and not over doing it and not under doing it. Love this series and can not wait for the next book!!! I have a feeling it's about to get way more I'll interesting and actions!
